Stinking Stubborn Microsoft & Apple!
But mostly Microsoft. I downloaded a song last night that I could only find at MSN (not in the iTunes Store). MSN has it copy protected, so I am unable to import it into iTunes, nor burn it to a disc as anything other than a copy-protected .WMA. So ridiculous! How can they expect you to simultaneously keep two (or more) disparate music libraries!?!?!? How petty can you get???

Wow, not even burn it to a disk. Apple's DRM is a pretty good compromise I think, but Micro$oft...
There is software out there to strip the DRM off of the file.
You may want to try www.virtuosa.com. They claim to play drm protected files and still be able to burn to disc, change file types etc.
Haven't used it myself.
Aaron-I CAN burn it to a disc, but only as the same fucking copy-protected .WMA. I know, I feel like the song is worth about $.09, not the $.99 I paid.
MIx-The one thing you can do is play it in Media Player and simultaneously record it in recording software, but that seems really ass-backwards. You have to really "click-click" in fast succession so your spacing at the beginning and end are just right. Ridiculous! What I may do is play the disc on a CD player AUX in to my digital recorder, then burn a disc from there. A lot of fucking trouble for this one song, but a lesson learned. MSN will get NO MORE business from me, ever.
The Virtuosa software claims to be able to burn your song to cd as a cda file, or convert it from protected wma to standard mp3.
There is a more specialized software for ITunes from a group called thehymnproject. It isn't a player, it just allows you to strip the drm from songs that you legally own. You have to have the username and login for the itunes music store, but then it strips the protections off.
Virtuosa claims to do the same thing but is also a player, burner etc. And it's a 30 day free trial.
